The Story Behind Okot Electric
Okot Electric was founded by Philips Okot, a licensed electrician whose journey into the electrical trade began long before the company existed.
Philips grew up in a rural village in Uganda without electricity or running water. As a child, he had never seen powered lights or outlets. One day, his grandfather took him to the city to sell handmade goods door to door. After a long day of work, they sat in a small restaurant where Philips saw electric lights and plugged-in radios for the first time.
That moment sparked a lifelong curiosity.
When he returned home, Philips took apart his family’s radio to understand how electricity worked. While he got in trouble for it, that curiosity became the foundation of his future career as an electrician.
After finishing high school, Philips could not afford college or trade school. Instead of giving up, he volunteered, served his community, and stayed committed to learning. A nonprofit organization noticed his dedication and helped sponsor his electrical education, an act of generosity that changed his life.
After completing electrical school and gaining hands-on experience, Philips moved to the United States. He worked full-time as an electrician, took side jobs, cleaned offices on weekends, and saved carefully to support his growing family. In 2023, he founded Okot Electric with a simple belief:
