We’re excited to launch the Okot Electric blog, a space for anyone interested in learning more about the electrical practice. Our goal as a company and with this blog is to keep homeowners and businesses in the Greater Pittsburgh region safe and informed when it comes to all things electrical.
Growing up in Africa, our founder, Philips, had a deep passion for electrical work and computers. But with limited resources, his family couldn’t afford to support his education, and even basic schooling was a struggle. As a child, he worked hard to attend school. After finishing high school, college seemed out of reach due to financial hardship.
During that difficult time, Philips devoted himself to volunteering full-time at his local church. About a year later, a missionary whose ministry supported orphans affected by a brutal 24-year war introduced him to an anonymous sponsor from the United States. This incredible act of generosity changed his life, covering the full cost of his college education.
With that support, Philips was able to return to school, study electrical work, and earn his certificate and license in 2016. Eventually, he moved to Pittsburgh and founded Okot Electric LLC, built on the same values of service, gratitude, and excellence that shaped his journey.
